In Panama City, for a while. Hi LJ.
Wed, Aug. 19th, 2009, 04:43 pm
Basil's wedding is tomorrow.
Going to see Bret and Ashley on Saturday.
Alex shipped out for basic this morning.
My world's going to be a bit lonelier soon, but I still think that it'll be good to be home.

I'm leaving in twelve days. I need to keep telling myself this.
Twelve days. Maybe eleven.

My leg is slowly becoming a leg again, and I'll be going home soon.
I'm pretty excited about that. I miss driving, my brother, working, and the ability to walk without crutches. Soon.
Not much has happened lately. Last week I had a LOT of visitors and social events. Robert, Basil, Teara, Katie, Josh, Scott, Rachel(new friend!), Ethan, and Soma. Not at the same time, but yeah, it was nice. Everyone's working or out of town this week, so it's been extremely slow and laid back. I watched a lot of a show I recently discovered. It's called "Burn Notice" and it has Bruce Campbell. I think I watched six hours of the marathon this morning.
I think I might go spend a week on the beach with my dad and his girlfriend before I go home. I'm just not sure when to go. Maybe after the weekend. And Basil's wedding is soon! Tuxedos for the win.

My appointment went pretty well. I have to go back in a couple of weeks because my foot didn't want to tilt up to a full 90 degrees. Swelling and such.
When they cut off my splint and bandages, it was a bit of a shock. I didn't realize how large the incisions would be. The sutures were perfect, though, and everything has healed nicely. My physician's assistant was this Columbian fellow named Gustavo. He was incredibly nice, and went out of his way to help me out with a few things since I'm uninsured.
I got to have a nice lunch at Black Bean with my dad and Danielle. It was really nice to see her.
After that, I hit up the house to grab a few items and pick up my mail. Swung by Howie's and saw my brother and Tinky, and then headed out of Tallahassee back to Panama City.
And here are pics:
This is the large incision on the left side where the plate was inserted:
Right side, screws:

Someone was kind enough to post the new modest mouse EP or whatever it is, and the second song on it is SO GOOD.
The track is called Whale Song. It opens with an amazing three minute instrumental, and then it just sort of jumps in. It reminds me a lot of the way The Moon and Antarctica sounds and feels. The vocals are layered over other vocals and as they intertwine they become more and more desperate, or maybe it's not desperation but a sense of urgency.
I haven't liked a song this much upon first listen in a long time. Apparently it was supposed to go on We Were Dead, but didn't make the cut for whatever reason.
Track one's so-so.
I'm getting antsy waiting for Thursday. I get to go to my appointment, which is good for multiple reasons. I get to leave the house where I've been for the past two weeks, so I'm pretty pumped about that. I will get to see my brother and Aaron and maybe my roommate David if he's home. I'm sure I've got mail that I need to check on, too.
Robert and Teara came by again, as did Basil and Jackie. My dad's been by several times. He brought me a tropical smoothie last time, and it was pretty tasty. I'm glad that I have friends and family in town.
I talked to Savannah for the first time in like... I don't know six months or more. Probably longer. It was short, but alright.
I finished reading "Women" and was pretty entertained by it. There are some gems in it, but I didn't like it as much as I liked "Post Office" but it still made me laugh and groan. I'm about to dive back into "On the Road" again, because I'm doing the opposite and it'll be a nice escape. The version that I bought is the original scroll, so it's unedited and more frantic and I'm very much looking forward to seeing the madness unfold again. I'm also simultaneously reading and watching the Harry Potter series, and I'm starting to enjoy it. The books become more mature as they progress, which is obvious since the kids are getting older. Also, there's more at stake for the characters and that's making things more interesting.
The third movie is kind of terrible now that I've read the book.

it's only like two movie channels twice a day! the movie is so fucking pretty. everything about it. even the carnage is beautiful.
i finally got a call from my surgeon's office, and my follow up appointment is going to be on the 25th.
i've spent the last few days downloading movies and tv shows and then converting them to the right size so that i can watch them on my zune. last night, i got to lie on the couch with my headphones in the dark watching movies, and it was the best.

days and days.
I spent the day making phone calls to take care of various obligations. I'm tired of paperwork already. Tomorrow, I've got to start working with the unemployment office. Now that I'm not having to take as much pain medication, I'm feeling slightly more lucid and a lot more ambitious.
My dad brought me a bag full of DVDs to watch. Most of them are unwatchable, haha, but I appreciate that he did it for me.
I'm going to start on some audiobooks tonight, I think. Other than that, nothing real to report.
I really have nothing better to do, so here I am. I have no idea if any of you read these anymore, but I think the process is more important than what comes from it.
On June the 8th, I was walking back to my new house from the gas station that's less than a block away. I slipped on wet grass on the roadside of my ditch, and my ankle went the opposite way than the rest of me went. It broke in two places. Days, and a sorta-major surgery later, I'm in a temporary cast and I'm officially part robot. There is a metal plate and several screws holding my left ankle together.
I'm not allowed to put any weight on it for 8 weeks, so I'm living on my Nana's couch in Panama City. It's been pretty nice, but I know that it's going to become pretty boring. I'm going to keep telling myself that I'd be bored regardless of my location, because this is really the best place for me to be.
I've got several books to read, and I'm downloading audiobooks and tv shows. All guilty pleasures, pretty much, with the exception of Deadwood which is fucking excellent. I'm over halfway through the Harry Potter series. I told myself that I'd never do it, but Anna Carroll convinced me.
I was telling my friend Jenn that I have other "real" books to read too, which is true. Just not as many as I'd like. Robert's going to bring me some sci-fi soon I think. Ender's game series? I've heard of it plenty, but I've never really thought much about it.
I took a bunch of medicine and I'm waiting for it to make me drowsy, but I slept most of the day and I'm afraid that I might not actually become drowsy. They prescribed me percoset and some kind of muscle relaxer. The pain meds aren't that awesome. I was hoping for something stronger, but that's mostly because I'm a huge baby about anything pain related. That said, I'm doing all right with the constant throbbing from my ankle.
Today, I've watched several movies that were on TV. Top Gun, The Pursuit of Happyness, Superbad, and something that I don't really remember so well.
OH! Last night, the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup. So awesome. It went to the full 7 games, and I'm not going to lie and say that I wasn't worried. The Pens were the underdogs and started out in a hole pretty much when they lost the first two games.
Tonight, Robert and Teara brought me Rice Krispy Treats. They're delicious. It was nice to see some friends. Katie visited in the hospital, and my brother came by a few times too. My mom and dad were both there pretty much the entirety of it minus the first night. Everyone's been really cool and I've gotten loads of phone calls and texts. It's kind of nice, but at the same time it reminds me of how isolated I'm going to be over the next couple of months. After I get my stitches removed and a new cast put on, I'll know how mobile I'm going to be allowed to be. Also, there isn't much going on in my life right now to the me being stuck on the couch so even when I do talk to people regularly there isn't much new or interesting for me to talk about. Maybe I should take up whiddling wood or something?
I'm really hoping that I can ride over to Texas with my family so that I can see my Uncle Mike. I haven't seen him in years, and the crazy dude rejoined the army as a medic at age 42 or something ridiculous like that. He's deploying to Kuwait, initially, and then maybe to Iraq? I'm really not sure. He's always been one of my favorite people, and I hope that he takes care of himself.
I guess that's pretty much all for now. More ramblings and whining soon, I imagine.
